In the United States 11.4% (One in 9) African American children , 3.5% (1 in 28) Hispanic children , and 1.8% (1 in 57) white children have an incarcerated parent.
Nationally, there are more than 120,000 incarcerated mothers and 1.1 million incarcerated fathers who are parents of minor children (ages 0-17).

Kentucky is a National Leader in Terms of Incarceration Rate. Often referred to as the era of mass incarceration, the years between 1972 and 2008 saw sevenfold prison population growth nationwide. Kentucky recorded the greatest increase. According to late 2013 statistics, Kentucky’s actual rate is 462 individuals per 100,000 population, which is significantly higher than many other states.

Reentering society as a criminal has a catch 22. I think it’s imperative that we do all that we can so they can successfully reenter society.
